2017 saw tragedy strike Rio Ferdinand’s life as he lost his mom to breast cancer over the summer – just two years after his wife died from the same disease.

And holding to Instagram on Saturday, the football star, 39, captioned a picture of him and his partner Kate Wright, 26, with an romantic thoughtfulness of the formidable year – thanking Kate for bringing ‘brightness’ back into his life.

Next to a photo of the span in a hotel room in Dubai, he wrote: ‘To contend 2017 has been a tough year would be a vast understatement. Some dim moments but liughtness has been widespread around me and cave by this one in many opposite forms.

Kate captioned the images with the words: ‘2017…. the hardest but many rewarding year yet! Ups downs but we have gained 4 of the many changed people.

‘Happy new year everyone, we wish your year is filled with health happiness, keep your desired ones close.’

Recently, Kate was reportedly overheard revelation a companion how happy the couple were together.

Despite having no plans to marry yet, she told a friend: ‘We are so happy together. It’s going really well,’ a source told The Sun. Kate has done a vast bid to get to know Rio’s children.

It seems to have paid off after a source revealed: ‘She was revelation her friends how good all is for her at the moment. Rio’s children adore her.

Rio spoke about his attribute with the former TOWIE star for the first time in a vehement talk on This Morning in October.

While deliberating his new book Thinking Out Loud he spoke in abyss about overcoming grief and the ‘positive’ outcome Kate has had on his life.

Rio lost his wife Rebecca in 2015 following a brief battle with cancer aged 34 leaving him the primary caregiver to his kids.
