Cops seize 7,000 birds on California cockfighting ranch

California officials stormy the feathers of a large cockfighting ring in southern California.

More than 7,000 birds were seized at a ravine plantation in the northern reaches of Los Angeles County, the internal sheriff’s dialect announced.

Authorities pronounced at a Tuesday news discussion that they also found “mobile fighting pits” as good as slashers — pointy inclination that go on a rooster’s talons to cut other birds. Several passed birds were also found with wounds that signaled they died in a fight.

“This, according to the experts here, is the largest seizure in U.S. story of illegal cockfighting roosters,” Capt. Jeff Perry of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department pronounced at the news conference.

More than 100 officials with the dialect raided the ranch, and incarcerated 10 mostly “lower level” workers tasked with caring for the birds.

While cops found the fighting pits, Perry pronounced the primary use of the plantation was to multiply and sight the roosters for fowl combat.

Syringes and steroids were also found at the compound, which officials pronounced were used on the birds.

“What these people do is inject the roosters with steroids to lift their fighting capability,” Perry said.

The plantation owners was the primary suspect, Perry said, but hasn’t been detained. Authorities design some-more people will shortly be arrested.

The rooster devalue was raided 10 years ago, officials said, when 2,700 birds were recovered.

“It appears that shortly after that initial one was close down, they started back up, and it’s grown even bigger,” Perry said. “We consider this sold plcae is some-more of where they breed, lift animals” and then sell them via the region.

While some birds sell for a small $75, high peculiarity fighting roosters can cost some-more than $1000, pronounced Eric Sakach, comparison law coercion dilettante for the Humane Society of the United States.

Finding a breeding belligerent — of any distance — is tough to come by, Sakach pronounced at the news conference.

“Raids are rare,” he said. “These guys are gamblers. They bank on the thought that they’re not going to get caught.”

The birds have only been lerned to fight, and will have to be put down at the ranch, internal NBC associate KNBC reported.
