Fast-moving bike bandits aim gullible victims in NYC

NEW YORK — Police in Midtown Manhattan were acid Saturday for two bike-riding thieves who have been hidden cellphones right out of people’s hands.

Police expelled notice photos of the suspects, who are believed to be behind at slightest eight thefts in the past month, CBS New York reports.

Documented incidents so far

  • Around 6:10 p.m. Tuesday, Mar 21, a 38-year-old lady was at Sixth Avenue and 41st Street when a consider on a bicycle snatched her iPhone.
  • Around 1:30 a.m. Monday, Apr 3, a man was on Sixth Avenue at 42nd Street when suspects on bicycles ripped divided his iPhone.
  • Around 1:35 a.m. Monday, Apr 3, a 41-year-old man was station in front of 145 W. 44th St. when suspects on bicycles ripped divided his iPhone.
  • Around 9:55 p.m. Saturday, Apr 8, a 36-year-old man was on Sixth Avenue between 45th and 46th streets when a consider on a bicycle snatched his Samsung cellphone.
  • Around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Apr 8, a 22-year-old man was station nearby Lexington Avenue and 51st Street, when a consider on bicycles took his iPhone.
  • Around 12:15 a.m. Monday, Apr 10, a 22-year-old lady was on Broadway at 35th Street when suspects on bicycles took her iPhone.
  • Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Apr 15, a 45-year-old lady was station at Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street when suspects on bicycles ripped divided her iPhone.
  • Around 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Apr 15, a 22-year-old man was in front of 5 E. 42nd St. in his automobile with the window down, when a consider on a bicycle took his cellphone.

In the heart of Times Square, cellphones are everywhere. Whether it’s tourists holding photos or New Yorkers articulate and texting, they are now being targeted by the contemptuous bike bandits, CBS New York reported Saturday night.

“A float by! And just take my phone? That’s insane,” Megan Carthon, of Bushwick, Brooklyn, said.

Carthon pronounced she has her cellphone out all the time.

“24/7. But we consider it happens a lot. It’s New York City, you have people Googling and trying to figure out where to go, so we’re easy targets,” she said.

David Singleton, a traveller from Louisiana, pronounced even he knows you have to be clever with a phone that costs hundreds of dollars, generally with these thieves out there.

“You’ve got to keep your conduct on a swivel. You can’t come around here and thing that you’re just preoccupied to everything,” he said.

Singleton pronounced he keeps his phone in his back pocket.

“I don’t consider anybody can get to it but me meaningful about it, that’s for sure,” he said.

“Yeah we get worried,” pronounced Diane Hindman. “My daughter had that occur to her in Chicago — had it snatched right out of her palm when she was in the subway. So we’re responsible of it, but still holding pictures a lot.”

The suspects were described as being men 30 to 35 years old.

So far, no injuries have been reported.

Beware: Cellphone snatching thieves on bikes are targeting people in renouned traveller areas in New York City.

But as weather warms for open and the streets throng with bikers, pedestrians are warned not to call their smartphones around and to keep them inside a pocket or bag.

“You have to be clever when you’re walking and stay alert,” a lady said.

And of course, who is not guilty of texting, tweeting or following GPS in the center of a bustling sidewalk?

“That creates me scared,” pronounced Nyah Perez.

“I’ll have to be cautious when I’m walking possibly stop texting or put my phone in my pocket,” combined Rita Baidoo.

As Conybeare reported, this isn’t the first time this trend has held on in New York City. Video from the East Village in 2015 showed a woman’s phone get snatched before she even satisfied what was going on. She chased after the suspect, but the biker was way too fast.
