The unpredictability of the women’s diversion has kept Heather Watson desiring she can still grasp her tennis dreams.

The 25-year-old is ranked 68 and has been regularly thwarted in her efforts to strech the second week of a Grand Slam.

Yet the perfect unlikeliness of Jelena Ostapenko and Sloane Stephens’ Grand Slam victories in 2017 has given the whole women’s draw the feeling that maybe it could be them.

‘I consider generally in the women’s game, it’s always changing,’ pronounced Watson.

‘Your top tenners, we couldn’t even name half of them given it changes all the time and we consider that’s a really certain thing for the ones who aren’t up there. The men’s game, it’s stuck a lot of the time.’

Watson is one of only 3 British players in the singles categorical draws, the fewest at a Grand Slam given the US Open in 2014.

Last year in Melbourne there were seven, but Andy Murray is sidelined by injury, Dan Evans is portion a doping suspension, Aljaz Bedene has changed nationality and Naomi Broady unsuccessful to qualify.

No other players have come by to take their place, with only 4 ranked high adequate to get into the subordinate contest and nothing reaching the final round.

‘It’s unfortunate, generally Andy, who has just had surgery,’ pronounced Watson. ‘That sucks. we wish he heals fast and gets back given he’s good for the competition in the country.
