The series of intrigue scams jumped from 8,500 in 2015 to some-more than 21,000 in 2018. And a volume mislaid by victims has quadrupled over that duration — reaching $143 million final year, a FTC reported. The median reported detriment was $2,600, about 7 times some-more than other rascal tracked by a FTC.
Criminals typically find their victims online. Scammers emanate artificial profiles on dating or amicable media sites to build trust until they see an event to ask for money.

Anyone can be a victim, though it occurred many mostly to those between 40 and 69 years old. But people 70 and comparison paid out a most, with median waste of $10,000.
