Once on a time the merriest Christmas in the Southwest came pleasantness of some lumps of coal. An electrified Christmas wonderland was built in the mining city of Madrid, New Mexico, and that tradition is continued today, in a village that hosts an different Christmas parade, musty shops and boutiques, and wink Christmas lights. In the 1980s first lady Nancy Reagan launched the thought of selling White House Christmas Ornaments. 

The first was a elementary Angel. But then the Association started honoring any president, sequentially, commencement with a pacifist copied from the weather vane at George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.

Rita Braver examines the story of this White House tradition, and checks out this year’s ornament, honoring President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
