The longest-lasting attribute of my life began on a Saturday afternoon during a mall. (Remember those?) The year was 2009; a place was a Westfield Brandon Mall, outward of Tampa, where we was window-shopping and product-testing with a friend. we didn’t close eyes with a new regretful interest, nor did we event on a span of jeans that magically fit us both like a certain illusory sisterhood’s. No, a earth-shattering, world-shifting assembly I’m referring to is laying eyes on BareMinerals Eyecolor in Bare Skin.
I know how this could sound like a paradox: How could an eyeshadow with a name like “Bare Skin” locate anyone’s attention? In a quarrel of festive products during Sephora, we latched on to Bare Skin for a guarantee of a healthy glow. we wasn’t technically authorised to wear makeup during a time, yet we wanted to start—and this “bare” shade struck me as a wily approach to get my beauty life going. we remember brushing a vegetable powder shade onto a behind of my palm and marveling during a gloomy spark underneath a florescent lights: all this for $15. we was sold.
A lot has altered in a decade that upheld given my initial eyeshadow purchase—primarily, I’m a grown lady who doesn’t need accede for any partial of my beauty or conform routine. If we wanted to, we could wear a full Teflon face as mostly as we pleased. Ten years later, though, we still wear Bare Skin each singular day.
Even during Glamour, where a beauty editors easily concede a rest of a group to try new products, I’ve never asked to take partial in an eyeshadow test—I’m so trustworthy to this shadow, I’m not meddlesome in deliberation alternatives. It isn’t nostalgia alone that keeps me entrance behind to BareMinerals Bare Skin. Part of a interest is pristine staying power. Other eyeshadows I’ve attempted faded or incited sweat-shiny though a thick covering of authority underneath. BareMinerals stays on for a full day though vanishing or smudging, no authority needed.
Its best peculiarity is, by far, a color. It’s a soft, dewy pink—a lot like my favorite Charlotte Tilbury lipstick, yet with a tad some-more sparkle. When we was younger, it was an age-appropriate intro to eye makeup (subtle yet not sheer). As an adult, it’s only adequate glisten for a day-to-night, one-shade eye look. And it brightens my eyes on mornings when I’m disposed to Resting Tired Face (read: each morning).
My focus routine hasn’t altered given we initial bought Bare Skin. we shake a bit of powder into a lid, afterwards brush it on with an E.L.F. C-shape eyeshadow brush. Then I’ll line my eyes with MAC’s Coasta Riche eye pencil. The whole routine lasts all of 3 minutes—I timed it.
My adore for easy-on, easy-off makeup hasn’t faded in a years given that initial discovery. (Nor has my stockpile: One jar of this eyeshadow lasts several months longer than other palettes I’ve tried.) Even if we were to find another pinky-nude eyeshadow with all-day durability, BareMinerals Bare Skin eyeshadow would be my initial choice. It’s like they say, we never forget your initial love.
